Scratch

Today we are beginning to design a game on scratch. We have to pick a game and adapt it in different ways. I just explored many games on scratch. I liked the game bug on a plate. I liked the idea of super donkey kong. I might adapt super donkey kong or bug on a plate. The game doodle was also a good game to adapt. I saved a Thomas Edison picture off the internet, then I cut out his head on adobe photoshop and saved it. I than opened up the game bug on a plate on scratch and I imported his head.

Taking Action

On the weekend I sent a letter to Mr Dunn informing him about my challenge. I am currently waiting for a reply.

Taking Action

To take action I am planning to send a letter to Mr Dunn the same way Frederick did. I will also tell him the amount of trees cut down each year to make paper. I hope I will succeed.

Getting Informed 2

Over the hoilidays I contacted Frederick Niellsen, who did this same project last year. He said that he emailed Mr Dunn informing him about how much paper is used and wasted by Cranbrook school. He also told him to make the daily news an email instead of using 30 pieces
of paper each day. He also told Mr Dunn of how to minimise the amount of paper used. Unfortunatly the daily notices have not yet become email which wastes more and more paper everyday when there is an alternate to get it to the teachers. This is where he finished I hope I can fufil my goal to minimise the amount of paper used at Cranbrook school.

Getting Informed

I am getting informed at the moment and I am surfing the net for different facts. This is what I found.
Nearly 4 billion trees worldwide are cut down each year for paper, representing about 35% of all harvested trees. Fortunately, many of the trees used for paper come from tree farms which are planted and replenished for that purpose. Pictured above is a NASA image of total vegetation in the western hemisphere where most paper is consumed. The US is the world's largest consumer of paper by far. This is just some of the info I found.

Paper wastage in Cranbrook School

What:
I want to reduce the amount of paper used at Cranbrook school. The good morning news which goes to all teachers everyday about whats happening on the day uses 38000 pieces of paper each year. Also students print paper without permission and reprint their work again after finding out that there is a mistake in their work. Students also keep pressing the print button after their work didn't print because the printer needed more paper or ran out of ink. Overall the amount of paper and paper wasted in Cranbrook is phenomenal.

Why:
Paper is harmful to the environment because trees are cut down to create paper and the more paper used means the more trees cut down, and trees are important as they breathe in carbon dioxide and release oxygen for us to breathe.

How:
At the end of the year I will see how much paper was used and compare it to the year before, to see if the school has improved in the amount of paper they use each year.
